It’s another bright, sunny day in New Smyrna Beach, and Bill Haussmann is doing what he loves mostrelaxing with his wife Cheri in the private backyard of their waterfront home, absorbing the beautiful view on the horizon. The lighthouse is visible in the distance and there are always visitorsdolphins and manatees drift by, as do pelicans and blue and snowy white egrets. Bill & Cheri’s son, Christopher, is fishing on the dock; Bill smiles as he watches an egret silently creep up behind the boy to sneak shrimp out of his bait bucket. For Bill, moments like these are what make the good life here a “shore” thing.

Always Motivated
Raised in the rural Maryland countryside, Bill has always actively pursued his dream of a waterfront lifestyle. As a child, he and a friend built a log raft and sailed down a freshwater stream to the Bush River, a tributary on the upper Chesapeake Bay. “My Dad had been in the Coast Guard, so I also spent a lot of time boating and exploring the Bay with him,” Bill says. After earning a degree in business administration, Bill embarked on a successful career as an energy use consultant, eventually becoming Manager of Conservation Programs for the Southwest Gas Corporation. By then he was in Las Vegas, but the waterfront dream remained so strong that it eventually led him to a different career path.
